Reducing Stress


Have you ever felt like you were carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders? I hope those times are few & far between. How do you deal with stress? I have many stress tips to share, however today I am focusing on the one that works for me. I find that the best way to work through stress is through physical activity or exercise. 

After years of being physically active, I am still surprised at just how good I feel after exercising. I don’t always realize that I am tense or stressed until after. That’s when I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Have you ever experienced this?

You shouldn’t ignore stress. It doesn’t go away, rather it builds up over time. When stress builds your blood pressure builds as well. Get active to reduce stress. You’ll feel better & sleep better. You’ll be more positive, energetic, alert & productive. When alert and mentally sharp, you’ll be more aware of what is going on around you. As a result, injuries will also be prevented.

The following statistics are impressive. The Alberta Centre for active living reports that physically active employees take 27% fewer days of sick leave. Also, physical activity programs can reduce the # of workplace injuries by 25% & per capita worker compensation costs can be reduced by 45%.

If you are physically active at work, you aren’t exempt, you still need to exercise. Thin people need to exercise too! Exercise your heart & lungs & build strong muscles & bones to prevent diseases & injuries. Don’t let the weight of the world bring you down. Be physically active to reduce stress & to live long.
