A Breath of Fall Fresh Air

This is one of the best seasons to get active outdoors, especially if you like to walk, jog or bike. The fall air may seem a little crisp to start but once you get moving you’ll appreciate it.
I like to jog. I’ll have better runs on cool days than on hot days. My body doesn’t overheat or dehydrate as easily. The cooler air feels invigorating; almost refreshing as I work-up a sweat. It helps to keep me going.
I have a real appreciation for nature. In the fall, the leaves change to beautiful colors. I like the sound of the leaves crunching under my feet. The sun isn’t as intense. It feels good on my face and is a natural source of vitamin D.
When exercising outdoors in the fall, it is important to dress in layers. If there is a cool wind, wear a head band (to cover your ears). You lose a lot of heat from your head so a hat is another alternative. Wear proper shoes with good tread or grip & light gloves & you’ll be set.
As the sun is now setting near the dinner hour, try to get your work-out done early. A morning work-out will clear your head & help to organize your thoughts. You will feel better and ready to take on the world (or at least the rest of your day).
If you are exercising after dinner, wear reflective clothing. Find someone to exercise with you to be safe. Exercising with a family member, neighbor or friend can really make the time fly. You will motivate each other to stick with it.
A dog can also be a good fitness buddy. I own a big dog and he has to be walked on a regular basis. He is my motivator & a challenge to keep up with. I enjoy his company & always feel safe.
If just getting started, set a pace that is a bit challenging but still comfortable. Enjoy the experience. Fall in love with the changing season. Get outdoors for a breath of fall fresh air & exercise (before winter settles in)! You’ll feel better for it!
